Remembering Kate Spade
My beat up collection of Kate Spade handbags and shoes
It has been 7 years since Kate Spade killed herself on June 5, 2018, in her Park Avenue apartment. In remembrance of this fabulous designer I'd like to share what I posted on Facebook when I heard the news.
Remembering Kate Spade
I am so, so sad to hear that Kate Spade died. Anyone dying at 55 is tragic. Dying by suicide, well there are no words. It is especially hard to comprehend because she brought so much joy to so many people with her joyful designs.
I'd like to take a moment to thank her for the joy she brought me over the years, when she was still designing for her namesake label. (The fun, the joie de vivre of her pieces was lost when she left in 2006 and the brand went mass market.)
I present my beat up collection of Kate Spade handbags and shoes. There are all sorts of memories tied up with these treasures, frivolous things some of you might think, but isn't it the small joys in life that keep us going through the tough times?
My very favorite pair of shoes ever are the yellow flats with rhinestones. Appropriately named "Party Shoes," they were my muse during a very carefree time of my life when I was jetting around the world. If I had a dollar for every time someone stopped me to comment on these shoes, I'd be able to afford every pair of vintage Kate Spades on Ebay. Once, a customs agent at Sydney Airport even stopped to admire them. They truly put a cheerful skip in my step.
Thanks, Kate. You were the best.
Wishing you peace,
Carrie
